This roadside stand greets you with two, giant bald eagles. It’s just some of the woodcarving that is on display and for sale at this unique stop. Most Saturdays the woodcarver is hard at work at his outdoor studio. But the real draw here is the produce.
Hughey Farms is a multi-generational affair, having grown peaches in the area since the 1950’s. Today they grow 75% of the product that they sell and that includes peaches, strawberries, beef cattle, okra, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins and apples. They grow 50 acres of peaches and another 30 acres of produce, all of which is tended by hand, including harvesting and planting.
They make the rounds to the area farmers’ markets, but a visit to their stand is an experience. It feels like stepping back in time as you see the collection of old-timey farm tools on display and the rustic shopping area. You can pick up some hot pepper jelly, a hand-carved bench and a basket of peaches or apples for your trip back home.
